Questions we’ve heard so far
December 11, 2008
Q. Can I select one specialization for the Secondary option?
A. Yes, you may select only one specialization (e.g. Major Art). Make sure that it is a Major (Specialization).
Q. I don’t meet the requirments for a second program choice. Can I submit only my first program choice?
A. Yes, the system will allow you to submit only the first program choice.
Q. I am currently completing my program. What should I put down as the end date for my program?
A. Please include the anticipated/future end date of your program.
Q. I previously applied to UBC and was offered admission, but I never registered for courses and attended. Do I still have to click on “I attended UBC” in question 1 in General Information?
A. Yes. If you were admitted to UBC, you were given a student number that applies to this session as well. For some reason, the system isn’t allowing users to simply click “Yes” and “I don’t know my UBC student number.” This matter is being looked into presently.
Feel free to post more questions in the comments. And if you’re having technical problems in the B.Ed. application or supplemental application forms, please email sswebsupport@exchange.ubc.ca and let us know as well so we can inform other users.

For specializations where overlap is possible, can I put the same course for both specialization requirements? E.g., Math and Computer Science, can I use Computer Science 302 to fulfill 3 of the credits for both?

Yes, you may use the same course for both specializations. Please note you can only use up to 3 credits of CPSC for a Math concentration.

Must at least one of my specializations be a major as opposed to two concentations-e.g. Math and Computer Science?

No. You may present two concentrations.

Is okay to apply to the program in January, finish the last of the academic requirements the following August, and then start the program immediately in September?

Yes, you may apply to the program even if you are completing academic requirements at that time. Here’s a link to our course completion policy: http://www.teach.educ.ubc.ca/stepstoapply/requirements/selection_info.html. Please note there’s a slight academic penalty for courses taken during the summer.

I applied to the September TEP program but I am wondering if I also have to apply seperately to admissions for UBC, if so by what date (pending I get in?)?

You don’t have to apply separately to Undergraduate Admissions at UBC as admission to the B.Ed. (Teacher Education) program is handled by our office.

Do all transcripts have to be in by the 13th of feb? Also, how do we pay our $60 fee. I already submitted my application from the SSC and it never asked me for a payment.

We accept transcripts a little after the deadline, but you should ensure that they are en route to our office as it will delay the evaluation of your application. You should have been prompted to pay your application fee when you submitted your application. Please see instructions for applying online here: http://www.teach.educ.ubc.ca/stepstoapply/apply_online.html.

Is it possible to have a combine concentration in Home Economics and Art? Is there a shortage of Art teachers as well as Home Economics teachers?

Hi Emma, it is certainly possible for an applicant to have dual concentrations in Home Economics and Art.
