2009 BEd Application News
May 1, 2009
The BEd extended application deadline for 2009 has passed and the online application is now closed. Thank you to all who applied for our extended deadline. An acknowledgement email will be sent to you within approximately two weeks of the deadline. You will then be able to track your application status and the status of your documents online at the UBC Student Service Centre website (www.students.ubc.ca/ssc). There is a reasonable grace period for the receipt of supporting documents, however, you should arrange to have any outstanding documents submitted urgently as applications with missing documents will be cancelled at some point. Applicants must refer to the SSC for information about application status or documents. Most admissions decisions for the 2009 intake will be sent in May.

Hello, are you PERIODICALLY sending out emails or how does the process work? A few of my friends have already been accepted and they all found out several days apart, but I have yet to hear anything.

Hi Lana, as our website states, we have been sending out admission notifications since March: http://www.teach.educ.ubc.ca/stepstoapply/application_timeline.html.

Hi,
I applied for the first deadline – February 13th. But, I have not heard anything back, not even a letter saying that everything was received, as I live in Ontario. I am pretty worried, when will I hear back about my application?
Thanks

Karen, we always acknowledge submissions of applications. It’s possible that the email acknowledging your application’s submission was re-routed to your Junk Mail folder. Please send an email to admissions.teo@ubc.ca to inquire about the status of your application.

I applied and got everything in by the cut off of Feb 13th, but have not heard anything since receiving an email stating that everything has been received. My status online states that everything has been received as of Feb 13th and ‘most applicants will hear in May’. I have friends who were accepted in March, yet still I’ve received nothing. Will you be sending out acceptance/rejection emails though out the entire summer, or will the cut off for the acceptance/rejection be May 31st?

Dilys Chiew | May 25, 2009 at 9:43 am
Kate, we will be sending notifications from now until all applications have been reviewed, likely into the summer.

Joyce, we are working on informing the majority of applicants about the status of their application by the end of May. If you don’t hear back by then, don’t panic; we will inform everyone about the status of their application.

Hello,
I have got accepted into the Secondary 12-months program. May I know are there actually any Entrance Scholarships or any other kind of scholarships? What about the BEd Awards? Do we have to apply all of these?
Thanks.
Anna

Anna, the Faculty of Education doesn’t offer entrance scholarships for domestic students; there are scholarships available upon completion of the B.Ed. program. We blogged about finances earlier: http://ubceducation.wordpress.com/2008/09/29/making-cents-of-the-cost-of-education/. Hope this is helpful.

Hi there,
I am also wondering how to find out if my final transcripts have been received. I was offered conditional admission pending those transcripts and I thought they should have arrived by now but I have not heard anything back since that conditional offer was made in the first week of May.
Should I resend them, or does this seem like a normal wait time?
Thanks!
-Tina

Hi, I have yet to receive a formal letter saying so, but my online application status says that I have been refused, displaying that I do not have the prerequisties for the program. I actually do have all of the prerequisites, so I am thinking that some may not have translated (different course numbers from separate institutions, that kind of thing) in to the required forms. In the appeal process, is it possible to sit down with someone and rectify this situation?

Dilys Chiew | June 2, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Travis, the letter will provide more details concerning the decision made about your application. When you have received the letter, you may email or phone me with additional questions.

Hi there,
I was just wondering if all the acceptance letters for the French Immersion Program have been sent. I haven’t seen anything on the blog regarding decisions for the French program and have yet to hear any news regarding my application. Thank you for your time.

Hi there,
I just have a question, out of curiosity, about the practicum placements for the ELF cohort in the Elementary two-year program. When it says “Delta”, does that location include schools in Ladner and Tsawassen (technically more central and South Delta) or does it just include North Delta, as I know many people refer to North Delta as just Delta. Just curious as I’m a ‘Ladner’ Delta resident and was wondering if there will be any placements in my area!
Thanks very much!

Jennifer Stewart | June 26, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Hi Jaclyn,
The practicum placements will not be confirmed until September. We don’t have a request from a Ladner school at this time.

Hi I applied for the two year elementary program after the Feb 13th deadline but before the April 30th deadline. I was wondering if letters of acceptance have been sent out for those applicants or if just the letters for those who applied before the first deadline have gone out. If they have not gone out is there an estimated date of when they will be going out?
thank you
