Beginnings
First of all, let me extend a warm welcome to the new B.Ed. Elementary 12-month students that started yesterday! It was pleasant and energizing to see all the new faces around the TEO. We hope you enjoy and thrive in the next twelve months of learning and teaching — it wil be busy, so please remember to renew and relax when you have the opportunity.
Some news for the 12-month/2-year B.Ed. students starting in September:
- The registration system is still open for eligible students. Most of the seats have filled up in the the different options, so we’d like to encourage all eligible students to register as soon as possible. Derek Frenette, Program Planning Manager, is on hand to assist you; you can reach him at 604-822-5242.
- Orientation dates, times, and locations have been posted.
- Dates of the program are also posted now: Elementary, Middle Years, and Secondary.
Got a question about your program start? Feel free to submit a comment.

2009 BEd Application News
The BEd extended application deadline for 2009 has passed and the online application is now closed. Thank you to all who applied for our extended deadline. An acknowledgement email will be sent to you within approximately two weeks of the deadline. You will then be able to track your application status and the status of your documents online at the UBC Student Service Centre website (www.students.ubc.ca/ssc). There is a reasonable grace period for the receipt of supporting documents, however, you should arrange to have any outstanding documents submitted urgently as applications with missing documents will be cancelled at some point. Applicants must refer to the SSC for information about application status or documents. Most admissions decisions for the 2009 intake will be sent in May.

Update from the Eye of the Storm
Hi everyone,
In the last couple of weeks, Jennifer and I have been keeping our nose to the grindstone and the hard work is paying off. We’re happy to report that we’ve started emailing admission decision letters for July and September applicants. If you got your application in by Feb. 13, including your references and transcripts, it’s likely that your application is being reviewed at this very moment (or it’s sitting in our inboxes). If your status hasn’t changed in the SSC, or you haven’t received an email, don’t panic – we’re going to be sending out decision letters periodically throughout April and May. For those of you who haven’t submitted supplemental forms, please do so by April 30 to remain eligible for the September start.
Feel free to ask questions in the comments box below. First, a disclaimer: I will not be answering any questions about your application status. Thanks for playing.

News: BEd Admissions 2009
If you have applied to the Bachelor of Education program beginning in 2009, your acknowledgment should be sent to you by email approximately two to four weeks from the application deadline.
After you receive your acknowledgment email, you may then track receipt of any outstanding documents and check the status of your application on the UBC Student Service Centre web-site, www.students.ubc.ca/ssc. We allow a reasonable period of grace for supporting transcripts and reference reports which may not have reached us by the deadline. Please note the deadline of May 29, 2009 for final transcripts for courses currently in progress and completed in April (for which an interim official transcript should already have been submitted). The deadline for proof of registration for summer courses is May 29, 2009. Applicants are not required to submit a UBC transcript.
Applicants must submit the online BEd Supplemental Application (statement of experience, essay, etc.) and Academic Requirements Form as soon as possible if they have not already done so.
Decision letters for the July Bachelor of Education program will be sent by email in March/April 2009. Most decision letters for the September Bachelor of Education Program will be sent by email in May/June 2009.

Application Opens Dec. 8!
Hi everyone,
Due to a couple of unexpected delays, the testing has just started for the modified B.Ed. online application. As a result, we won’t be opening the online application until Monday Dec. 8. Apologies for the slight delay. We want to ensure that the application system is free of bugs (or close to it) before it’s released to users. In the meantime, keep working on your essay and references and check back here often for updates.
Thanks for your patience.
